Livorno is one of Tuscany’s most beautiful places, home to several islands in the Tuscan Archipelago, including Capraia and Elba. It is one of Tuscany’s most popular hiking spots, with some trails taking you to gorgeous coasts lined with lovely beaches. One of Livorno’s most popular hiking routes is the “Pilgrim’s Route,” which takes you through the Montenero Forest.

The Pilgrim’s Route trail is well-marked with clear signs on the ground, allowing for easy hikes. It consists of four paths forming a circular loop, with the entire route marked by arrows and signposts. The trail looks even more picturesque during the spring season when the flowers are in full bloom. Animals are also abundant in the area, particularly dragonflies, birds and butterflies, which are more active during the early spring season.

The trail begins at the parking lot of the Montenero Circuit. Before you head off for your hike, it’s worth stopping at the Livorno hills, where you can admire the panoramic views of the city. During clear days, you can also catch a glimpse of the Pisan Mountains and the Apuan Alps from here. The trail begins with an unpaved road with a few curves downhill and continues on flat grounds. Some parts are slightly uphill, although it’s doable for all levels of hikers.

The historic city of Grosseto is a gorgeous place to explore in Tuscany on foot. When hiking around the city, you’ll encounter historic buildings, museums, nature reserves, and lovely villages. It also has coastal trails taking you to beautiful beaches where you can relax or enjoy some water activities.

Hiking in the Maremma Natural Park is a popular activity in Grosseto. Dubbed Italy’s most distinct and varied natural park, it is a great place to hike through history, passing along the unspoiled coastline. The trails are generally easy and immensely rewarding. Your final destination is the shoreline of Maremma, where you’ll find beautiful sandy beaches alternating with rocky coastlines. Bordered by long stretches of pine forests, these beaches are a great spot to camp and spend the night.

When you’re back in Grosseto, don’t miss the opportunity to sample the city’s gastronomic pleasures. Maremma’s diversity is a testament to the city’s interesting culinary delights. You’ll feast on a smattering of local wines served with delectable dishes made with honey, olive oils, cured meats, and cheeses, a perfect way to indulge after a rigorous hike.

In the eastern section of Tuscany, you’ll find the Arezzo province, home to the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, a popular spot for hiking. It’s a protected area of wilderness and a perfect place to immerse yourself in nature, away from the hustle and bustle. As Tuscany is one the most booked minimoon destinations, places like Arezzo provide the most romantic setting for couples looking to explore by foot.

The Foreste Casentinesi National Park lies by the Apennine ridge, which separates Tuscany from the Emilia Romagna region. Featuring unique diversity and unusual beauty, it encompasses different hiking trails suitable for hikers of all levels. As you hike through the park, you’ll encounter many gorgeous lakes, majestic waterfalls, and peaks over a thousand metres tall, including Mount Falterona and Monte Falco.

Some of the hiking trails in Foreste Casentinesi National Park include the well-marked 3-day circuits. Each circuit offers two different overnight stops, with an option to stay at hostels or farm stays. The most popular trail is the Ring &, which takes you through the ancient forest of Camaldoli.
